“SWEETIE PIE” BY EFFANBEE, 1939, FLIRTY EYES 24” ANTIQUE COMPOSITION & CLOTH

Description

Offered here is a large antique life-size baby doll by Effanbee – she is “Sweetie Pie”, introduced in 1939.  The socket head, arms and legs are composition, the body is firmly stuffed cloth body with non-working Mama crier.  The face is just darling with chubby cheeks, closed mouth, large, blue flirty sleep eyes – the eyes move from side to side when baby is moved.  Her hair is light sandy brown caracul.  There are a few fissures of the face around the eyes and there is a seam crack of the upper inner right thigh – these are considered normal wear and tear for a doll of this age.  She is dressed in yellow baby dress and bonnet, white cotton lace trimmed petticoat and pantalettes.  The clothes need a good laundering.  She is dusty from many, many years of storage and the eyes are cloudy but should clear nicely when cleaned.  I obtained this doll recently at an estate sale and was told that she had had only one owner.
